Another stellar day and Heavenly Valley is Open!
Newsflash 8:15am update: Due to the awesome work of our Mountain Ops and Patrol teams Heavenly Valley is expected to open at some stage today once final checks are complete. Keep an eye on the Lift Report and Hotham App for live updates.
The extended run of stellar weather continues. At 6am I can see stars everywhere and the forecast is calling for another ripper day in the mountains.
With another temperature inversion last night, the current temp is +4.3 and could max out at +6 degrees later on. The wind has picked up a few notches and is currently moderate to strong out of the North.
Even though temps stayed above zero all night, the low humidity meant the snowmakers were able to get a window and they're still firing as I type. Just a reminder that as of today, scheduled lifts will revert back to regular operating hours - with the first lifts spinning from 8:30am.
The open groomed terrain will definitely be the best bet starting off firm with sunny aspects softening as the day warms. The cover on Heavenly Valley is marginal with shaded aspects likely to remain icy all day. Suitable for advanced and expert skiers only - if you venture out, be sure to ride with caution and observe all signage. The Extreme Area remains closed due do an extreme ice hazard. Do not enter!

Backcountry Conditions

There is a significant sliding hazard in the backcountry again today, plus the cover is thin, becoming more marginal the lower you go. The sunniest of aspects may soften for spring-like turns as the day warms, but shaded and south-facing slopes will likely stay very icy and dangerous for the day. Take Care.

It is pretty firm again this morning and shaded areas may stay that way.. Be very aware of variable cover and conditions. Cover is very thin in places. Please ski with care. If you aren't skilled I would recommend using classic skis. Heading out to the Mt Loch area currently not recommended due to very icy conditions.

The only place on Mt Hotham for tobogganing is at the HOTHAM HUB toboggan slope ( Wire Plain ) Bus stop 11.
The Hotham Hub has toilets, toboggan hire, hot food and drinks to make your experience all that more enjoyable.
The Peashooter toboggan slope at DP is also open.
Best XC Skiing
Village down to workshop. Further on it is very mixed. with some taking off skis needed.
Dinner Plain Trail
Worth an explore however there are thin and bare areas.
